Search and Retrieval Functionality Enhances User Experience of Taylor & Francis\' Three Academic Reference Websites

December 3, 2002 — Taylor & Francis, the leading international academic publisher, selected Convera and Semantico to implement search and retrieval technology in the development of the online version of The Europa World Year Book to be published in 2003. Semantico have already implemented Convera\'s RetrievalWare across three of Taylor & Francis\' major websites - The Routledge Encyclopaedia of Philosophy, The World of Learning and The International Who\'s Who.
Semantico has developed a range of extensions for Convera\'s RetrievalWare to specifically meet Taylor & Francis\' reference publishing requirements. The extensions have enabled Taylor & Francis to tailor search requirements, develop quickly the specific search functionality required and provide comprehensive access to field coded data within the user interfaces. These ultimately allow users to search efficiently and accurately across the wealth of information available.

\"Our approach has allowed us to cater for a wide range of enquirer groups and inquiry types.\" explained Adrian Driscoll, Managing Director at Semantico, \"For example, we can allow the basic user to start with a simple query but still have access to complex result options, whilst still providing the advanced search options that directly access those same complex result options for the sophisticated user groups. The functionality we have developed will drill down through search results using all available classifications and headings that exist within the source data.\"

Cos´è elearningtouch.it?
Da marzo 2003 elearningtouch.it è la community italiana dedicata alla formazione online.
E´ fortemente orientata al confronto, alla collaborazione e alla condivisione di conoscenza; è il luogo virtuale in cui

raccogliamo e condividiamo buone pratiche e modelli di progettazione e-learning,
discutiamo e ci confrontiamo sugli aspetti della didattica online, le metodologie di apprendimento, le tecnologie,
cerchiamo di comprendere l´influenza dell´e-learning nella formazione universitaria, scolastica, aziendale, della PA
proviamo a fare il punto di quanto accade nel settore anche a livello europeo e internazionale.

Mission e utenza
L´intento è quello di creare una comunità di pratica dei professionisti dell´e-learning, un ambiente dove continuare a imparare progettando la formazione.
Partecipano più di 1000 tra esperti, studiosi, ricercatori, progettisti, tutor, docenti, instructional designer, professionisti aziendali, esponenti del mondo universitario, presidi e docenti di realtà scolastiche, studenti e tesisti, corsisti di percorsi formativi sull´e-learning.
